One moment we were mere tourists in the water and the next we were among swarms.<\/p>\n<p>There were\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Yellow_tang\">Yellow Tang<\/a>. There were Orangestripe and Whitespotted\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.hanauma-bay-hawaii.com\/surgeonfish.html\">Surgeonfish<\/a>. There were various kinds of\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Butterflyfish\">Butterflyfish<\/a>. There were orange\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Labridae\">Elegant Coris<\/a>\u00a0and ones with black and white stripes. There was a\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.mauioceancenter.com\/index.php?id=11&amp;ss=0&amp;page=marine&amp;content=marine_detail&amp;cat=1&amp;CRid=68&amp;limitstart=0\">Flowery Flounder<\/a>\u00a0fluttering on the bottom. There were\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Triggerfish\">Triggerfish<\/a>.\u00a0There were long skinny\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Cornetfish\">Cornets<\/a>. There were\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Parrotfish\">Parrotfish<\/a>\u00a0crunching their beaks on the rocks.\u00a0And there were\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Moorish_idol\">Moorish Idols<\/a>\u00a0with long dorsal fins streaming behind them.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Some swam in schools, sometimes posing for swimmers with cameras. Some swam alone, coming right up to your face to stare you down.<\/p>\n<p>It made us feel as if we were in some sort of Jaques Cousteau documentary. And it made us glad we\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.snorkelbob.com\/\">rented snorkel gear<\/a>\u00a0for a week.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As soon as we put our faces in the water at Po\u2018ipu Beach, we were surrounded by fish.
