After our hike along the hidden trail<\/a>, we spent the rest of the day driving along the coast from Kapa\u2018a to Hanalei. We thought we might stop at some of the many beaches and go snorkeling. In the event, drizzle and trade winds kept us out of the water.<\/p>\n

But we saw rivers running from the mountains down onto sandy beaches.<\/p>\n

And we saw Norfolk Pines standing watch over the land.<\/p>\n

And we saw fields of taro in valleys nestled against cloud-shrouded mountains.<\/p>\n

And we saw surf pounding against barren cliffs.<\/p>\n

And we saw islands in the deep blue sea.<\/p>\n

And we saw the surf breaking on the sand.<\/p>\n

And we sat in the shade, watching the waves and breathing the breeze.<\/p>\n

We drove up and down the coast and saw these things. And the day ran away from us.\u00a0And as we headed home the mountains began receding into night.<\/p>\n
