It’s that time of day\u00e2\u20ac\u201dwhen the organizations call.<\/p>\n

\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n

“Hello?” I say.<\/em><\/p>\n

There’s a delay on the other end as their auto-dialing software rings up some poor drone. \u00c2\u00a0I sit silently, waiting for them to speak.<\/em><\/p>\n

“Hello?” says the drone, evidently puzzled by the silence.<\/em><\/p>\n

“Yes?” I say, stepping out of the darkness.<\/em><\/p>\n

“Oh hello. May I speak to Trudy, please?”<\/em><\/p>\n

“She’s not here. \u00c2\u00a0May I take a message?”<\/em><\/p>\n

“Oh that’s ok. \u00c2\u00a0This is an organization she supports. \u00c2\u00a0We’ll get something out of her later.”<\/em><\/p>\n

Um, my bet is that you won’t. \u00c2\u00a0Not if you keep calling while she’s at work, and not if you word your ask like that.<\/em><\/p>\n
