The fans blew a cooling mist over us. People walked by in the street. Cars and motorbikes beeped and drove by. We <a href=\"https:\/\/books.google.com\/books?id=0m9-iQbgJ-AC&amp;pg=PA30&amp;lpg=PA30&amp;dq=i+must+rest+my+weary+wheels&amp;source=bl&amp;ots=ienkYtChLv&amp;sig=-XhJGg5yLu-oIJKaF3eQAti5mIU&amp;hl=en&amp;sa=X&amp;ved=0CCQQ6AEwAWoVChMInenExbqOyAIVg9KACh01EQZx#v=onepage&amp;q=i%20must%20rest%20my%20weary%20wheels&amp;f=false\">rested our weary wheels<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>By the time we finished eating, it was late enough to check into our room. While Trudy took a shower, I opened the windows and pushed back the shutters and let the heat and sounds of Rome drift into the room. And at that moment, I kid you not, a man walked up to the sidewalk cafe just below our window and began to play the accordion. (It was as if we were in Italy or something!)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u00a0 <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/jumpingfish.smugmug.com\/ItalySwitzerland-2015\/Gallery-the-first\/i-bV6JXsG\/0\/M\/DSC_0077-M.jpg\" alt=\"\" height=\"400\" \/><\/p>\n<p>For the rest of the day, we wandered amid ruins,\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u00a0 <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/jumpingfish.smugmug.com\/ItalySwitzerland-2015\/Gallery-the-first\/i-fmWvTtR\/0\/M\/IMG_4848-M.jpg\" alt=\"\" height=\"400\" \/><\/p>\n<p>stood beneath the wave of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bluffton.edu\/~sullivanm\/italy\/rome\/marcusaurelius\/marcusaurelius.html\">Marcus Aurelius<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u00a0 <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/jumpingfish.smugmug.com\/ItalySwitzerland-2015\/Gallery-the-first\/i-qM4p5Cc\/0\/M\/IMG_4846-M.jpg\" alt=\"\" height=\"400\" \/><\/p>\n<p>and the gaze of <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Colossus_of_Constantine\">Constantine<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u00a0 <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/jumpingfish.smugmug.com\/ItalySwitzerland-2015\/Gallery-the-first\/i-7zNzMRg\/0\/M\/IMG_4847-M.jpg\" alt=\"\" height=\"400\" \/><\/p>\n<p>and eventually wandered back as the sun was setting on the Colosseum just down the street.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u00a0 <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/jumpingfish.smugmug.com\/ItalySwitzerland-2015\/Gallery-the-first\/i-5rzbMNW\/0\/M\/IMG_4843-M.jpg\" alt=\"\" height=\"400\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Just down the street!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Breakfast included a fried egg, that European butter for which bread is only a medium and ice coffee.
