It was, in fact, <em>noon<\/em> when our day began, a detail that <a href=\"https:\/\/augerhandle.net\/blogs\/jumpingfish\/2015\/09\/16\/jet-lag-pills\/\">we have discussed already<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In any event, this was our <em>day in ancient Rome<\/em>. Of course, we spent a long time at the Colosseum, where evidently we had a fun time.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u00a0 <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/jumpingfish.smugmug.com\/ItalySwitzerland-2015\/Ancient-rome-to-the-spanish-step\/i-wC9SNjj\/0\/M\/IMG_4875-M.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We meandered thru the valley that was the Roman forums<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u00a0 <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/jumpingfish.smugmug.com\/ItalySwitzerland-2015\/Ancient-rome-to-the-spanish-step\/i-gPpLqRw\/0\/M\/IMG_4880-M.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" \/><\/p>\n<p>and across\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Campo_de%27_Fiori\">Campo de Fiori<\/a>, passing under the stern gaze of Giordano Bruno.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u00a0 <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/jumpingfish.smugmug.com\/ItalySwitzerland-2015\/Ancient-rome-to-the-spanish-step\/i-pPtgvJM\/0\/M\/IMG_4882-M.jpg\" alt=\"\" height=\"300\" \/><\/p>\n<p>And we sat under the portico of the Pantheon and then wandered inside where I literally wept.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u00a0 <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/jumpingfish.smugmug.com\/ItalySwitzerland-2015\/Ancient-rome-to-the-spanish-step\/i-ZBJkNX9\/0\/M\/IMG_4870-M.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"350\" \/><\/p>\n<p>And finally at day&#8217;s end, we found ourselves on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=aRj_cIOhGuo\">the Spanish Steps<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u00a0 <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/jumpingfish.smugmug.com\/ItalySwitzerland-2015\/Ancient-rome-to-the-spanish-step\/i-W6hJGGc\/0\/M\/IMG_4884-M.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"650\" \/><\/p>\n<p>It had been a very good day.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u00a0 <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/jumpingfish.smugmug.com\/ItalySwitzerland-2015\/Ancient-rome-to-the-spanish-step\/i-BnMXkjB\/0\/M\/IMG_4887-M.jpg\" alt=\"\" height=\"350\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As the day ended on our first day (with the sun lighting up the Colosseum), so our second day began (with the sun peering over the top). \u00a0 The astute reader might notice that a day doesn\u2019t actually begin with the sun peering over the top of anything like that.
