We didn\u2019t take in nearly enough \u2014 so much to see; so little time.<\/p>\n<p>I don\u2019t have anything particularly insightful to say about that day. Still, I\u2019d like to share some of it. So I\u2019ll walk you thru a set of <em>cartoons<\/em> of where we went \u2014 enough to let you walk along with us.<\/p>\n<p>It began with Perseus with Medusa\u2019s head under the open-air arches of the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Loggia_dei_Lanzi\">Loggia.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/jumpingfish.smugmug.com\/ItalySwitzerland-2015\/Day-in-Cartoons\/i-JkvsnPx\/0\/X2\/DSC_0903-X2.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/jumpingfish.smugmug.com\/ItalySwitzerland-2015\/Day-in-Cartoons\/i-JkvsnPx\/0\/S\/DSC_0903-S.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>And as if to balance the grotesqueness, just inside the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.museumsinflorence.com\/musei\/Palazzo_vecchio.html\">Palazzo Verrechio<\/a> was <a href=\"http:\/\/www.britannica.com\/biography\/Andrea-del-Verrocchio\">Verrocchio&#8217;s<\/a> Putto with Dolphin, which I photographed at the entreaties of Trudy.<\/p>\n<p class=\"center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/jumpingfish.smugmug.com\/ItalySwitzerland-2015\/Day-in-Cartoons\/i-LQ7jc27\/0\/X2\/DSC_0914-X2.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/jumpingfish.smugmug.com\/ItalySwitzerland-2015\/Day-in-Cartoons\/i-LQ7jc27\/0\/S\/DSC_0914-S.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Florence beckoned from outside.<\/p>\n<p class=\"center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/jumpingfish.smugmug.com\/ItalySwitzerland-2015\/Day-in-Cartoons\/i-6Z89cbb\/0\/X2\/DSC_0916-X2.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/jumpingfish.smugmug.com\/ItalySwitzerland-2015\/Day-in-Cartoons\/i-6Z89cbb\/0\/M\/DSC_0916-M.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/jumpingfish.smugmug.com\/ItalySwitzerland-2015\/Day-in-Cartoons\/i-Fnq7LFB\/0\/X2\/DSC_0921-b-X2.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/jumpingfish.smugmug.com\/ItalySwitzerland-2015\/Day-in-Cartoons\/i-Fnq7LFB\/0\/M\/DSC_0921-b-M.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Inside, there were angry lions<\/p>\n<p class=\"center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/jumpingfish.smugmug.com\/ItalySwitzerland-2015\/Day-in-Cartoons\/i-s3qGpqH\/0\/X2\/DSC_0930-X2.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/jumpingfish.smugmug.com\/ItalySwitzerland-2015\/Day-in-Cartoons\/i-s3qGpqH\/0\/S\/DSC_0930-S.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>and men in sculpted agony.<\/p>\n<p class=\"center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/jumpingfish.smugmug.com\/ItalySwitzerland-2015\/Day-in-Cartoons\/i-pD3Pgh5\/0\/X2\/DSC_0939-b-X2.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/jumpingfish.smugmug.com\/ItalySwitzerland-2015\/Day-in-Cartoons\/i-pD3Pgh5\/0\/S\/DSC_0939-b-S.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>From the windows of the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Uffizi\">Uffizi Gallery<\/a>\u00a0along the river,\u00a0Florence and distant Tuscany continued to beckon.<\/p>\n<p class=\"center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/jumpingfish.smugmug.com\/ItalySwitzerland-2015\/Day-in-Cartoons\/i-nQS3dXc\/0\/X2\/DSC_0947-b-X2.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/jumpingfish.smugmug.com\/ItalySwitzerland-2015\/Day-in-Cartoons\/i-nQS3dXc\/0\/M\/DSC_0947-b-M.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/jumpingfish.smugmug.com\/ItalySwitzerland-2015\/Day-in-Cartoons\/i-Gzqk5cH\/0\/X2\/DSC_0942-X2.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/jumpingfish.smugmug.com\/ItalySwitzerland-2015\/Day-in-Cartoons\/i-Gzqk5cH\/0\/M\/DSC_0942-M.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>as did too much stunning art.<\/p>\n<p>Of course there was <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sandro_Botticelli\">Botticelli&#8217;s<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Birth_of_Venus\">Birth of Venus<\/a>, where we were not alone.<\/p>\n<p class=\"center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/jumpingfish.smugmug.com\/ItalySwitzerland-2015\/Day-in-Cartoons\/i-8tzmNKP\/0\/X2\/DSC_0960-X2.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/jumpingfish.smugmug.com\/ItalySwitzerland-2015\/Day-in-Cartoons\/i-8tzmNKP\/0\/M\/DSC_0960-M.jpg\" alt=\"Birth of Venus\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>At the end of the art extravaganza, the Ufizzi Tower looked down at us as we rested outside on a patio.<\/p>\n<p class=\"center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/jumpingfish.smugmug.com\/ItalySwitzerland-2015\/Day-in-Cartoons\/i-KxZHn6R\/0\/X2\/DSC_0969-b-X2.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/jumpingfish.smugmug.com\/ItalySwitzerland-2015\/Day-in-Cartoons\/i-KxZHn6R\/0\/M\/DSC_0969-b-X2.jpg\" alt=\"Uffizi Tower\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>From here, we crossed the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Arno\">Arno River<\/a> along the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ponte_Vecchio\">Ponte Vecchio<\/a>, where in old times the Medici made their way from Palazzo Vecchio to their summer palace. And we\u00a0slowly made our own way to that very place, to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.museumsinflorence.com\/musei\/boboli_garden.html\">Boboli Garden<\/a>,<\/p>\n<p class=\"center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/jumpingfish.smugmug.com\/ItalySwitzerland-2015\/Day-in-Cartoons\/i-LDBqRMZ\/0\/X2\/DSC_1004-b-X2.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/jumpingfish.smugmug.com\/ItalySwitzerland-2015\/Day-in-Cartoons\/i-LDBqRMZ\/0\/M\/DSC_1004-b-M.jpg\" alt=\"Boboli Garden\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>where we climbed the hill and rested our weary wheels and looked out on Tuscany as the sun set in the west.<\/p>\n<p class=\"center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/jumpingfish.smugmug.com\/ItalySwitzerland-2015\/Day-in-Cartoons\/i-qr5nxZ4\/0\/X2\/DSC_1039-X2.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/jumpingfish.smugmug.com\/ItalySwitzerland-2015\/Day-in-Cartoons\/i-qr5nxZ4\/0\/M\/DSC_1039-M.jpg\" alt=\"Tuscany View at sunset\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/jumpingfish.smugmug.com\/ItalySwitzerland-2015\/Day-in-Cartoons\/i-ZWXmhPQ\/0\/X2\/DSC_1038-X2.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/jumpingfish.smugmug.com\/ItalySwitzerland-2015\/Day-in-Cartoons\/i-ZWXmhPQ\/0\/M\/DSC_1038-M.jpg\" alt=\"Tuscany View at sunset\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>When the announcement came that the garden was closing, we followed others who were gathered there and made our way back to the gates<\/p>\n<p class=\"center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/jumpingfish.smugmug.com\/ItalySwitzerland-2015\/Day-in-Cartoons\/i-tPpRf8d\/0\/X2\/DSC_1056-b-X2.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/jumpingfish.smugmug.com\/ItalySwitzerland-2015\/Day-in-Cartoons\/i-tPpRf8d\/0\/M\/DSC_1056-b-M.jpg\" alt=\"Boboli Garden front gate\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>and retraced our steps\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/jumpingfish.smugmug.com\/ItalySwitzerland-2015\/Day-in-Cartoons\/i-wgRZVNH\/0\/X2\/DSC_1066-b-X2.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/jumpingfish.smugmug.com\/ItalySwitzerland-2015\/Day-in-Cartoons\/i-wgRZVNH\/0\/M\/DSC_1066-b-M.jpg\" alt=\"Old Florence at night\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>back to our B&amp;B\u00a0where we packed our suitcases and collapsed into our beds in preparation for a dawn departure the next day.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Our last day in Florence was full of art and architecture and of sculptures and gardens.
