There were trees and shrubs clinging to the mountainside up to the tree line. Above that were clouds blowing over snow-clad peaks. And there\u2026 there just where his gaze seemed to fall, somewhere between the meadows and the utmost peaks, there was a naked cliff, and I knew that was the place they were taking us to.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUp there!?\u201d I shrieked.<\/p>\n<p>I am positive that with that exclamation my standing descended several notches in the esteem of Jerry and Gabrielle that day. Still, I would like to give you a sense of it.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Consider as evidence the following photo.<\/p>\n<p class=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/jumpingfish.smugmug.com\/ItalySwitzerland-2015\/Sardonnah\u00fctte-in-the-distance\/i-QfCzG9k\/0\/M\/DSC_0081-a-M.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" \/><\/p>\n<p>You see it, don\u2019t you? The alpine hut sitting above the cliff? Of course you don\u2019t. Because you can\u2019t, just as I couldn\u2019t.<\/p>\n<p>How about if we zoom in a bit. Does this help? Look for the hut at the peak of that Half-Dome-like rock face in the middle of the picture.<\/p>\n<p class=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/jumpingfish.smugmug.com\/ItalySwitzerland-2015\/Sardonnah\u00fctte-in-the-distance\/i-SHWbG7v\/0\/M\/DSC_0081-b-M.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Doesn\u2019t help any, does it? Right. So, let\u2019s zoom in a bit more.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/jumpingfish.smugmug.com\/ItalySwitzerland-2015\/Sardonnah\u00fctte-in-the-distance\/i-72D8dXG\/0\/M\/DSC_0081-c-M.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Certainly you can see it now. No? Zoom&#8230;<\/p>\n<p class=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/jumpingfish.smugmug.com\/ItalySwitzerland-2015\/Sardonnah\u00fctte-in-the-distance\/i-V9nBW84\/0\/M\/DSC_0081-d-M.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Maybe you can see the flagpole right in the center. (I couldn\u2019t.)\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>One final zoom&#8230;<\/p>\n<p class=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/jumpingfish.smugmug.com\/ItalySwitzerland-2015\/Sardonnah\u00fctte-in-the-distance\/i-cMbXB7f\/0\/M\/DSC_0081-e-M.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" \/><\/p>\n<p>And now <em>there<\/em> you can see it: a brown hut beside some white flagpoles sitting on top of a little outcropping.
