He had been absent from his usual perch. And then one day I spotted him there. He was wounded: a juicy gash torn into his ribs. He looked frail and withered.<\/p>\n<p class=\"center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Blogpix\/2016\/07\/i-tkX5mMT\/0\/X3\/DSC_0039-b-X3.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Blogpix\/2016\/07\/i-tkX5mMT\/0\/L\/DSC_0039-b-L.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>So we made a point to have water nearby, and although he was often nowhere to be seen, he would periodically show up, his long tail curled against the stabby blades of the agave.<\/p>\n<p>But then he went missing.<\/p>\n<p>Today as we returned from the greenbelt, there he was on the side of the house: evidence that he&rsquo;s getting around a little more. His color was bright. His wound and he looked much better.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Blogpix\/2016\/07\/i-LRKJjsj\/0\/X3\/IMG_6007-b-X3.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Blogpix\/2016\/07\/i-LRKJjsj\/0\/L\/IMG_6007-b-L.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I like to think setting out the water was key.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I was worried about him.
