Barely caught our plane. Changed in Baltimore. Rented a smokey-smelling car a mile from the Buffalo airport. And drove across to Canada.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nBy the time we got to our hotel, the afternoon was fleeting, and (vacationing being hard work even on day-one) we were hungry again.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n&#8220;Queen Street,&#8221; the woman behind the counter said. &#8220;There are cafes and clubs on Queen Street.&#8221;\n<\/p>\n<p>\nIt was just a few blocks away, and we found the perfect place where we could sit outside in the shade. (Upon seeing <em>That&#8217;s Amore Pizzaria<\/em>, Trudy declared, &#8220;I&#8217;m really hungry for pizza.&#8221;)\n<\/p>\n<p>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/augerhandle.net\/blogs\/jumpingfish\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/thats_amore5.jpg\"><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: 2px grey solid; display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" src=\"https:\/\/augerhandle.net\/blogs\/jumpingfish\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/thats_amore5-300x223.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"That's Amore Pizzeria\" height=\"200\" \/><br \/>\n<\/a>\n<\/p>\n<p>\nWe sat down and asked for two iced teas and were puzzled when the waitress brought to plastic bottles of Lipton sweetened with tons of corn syrup.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n&#8220;You two must be from America,&#8221; she said. &#8220;This is the only kind of iced tea we have up here.&#8221; We confessed to being from Texas, and the three of us agreed that that explained it.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nWhile we waited for our pizza, Trudy pulled out her map of Niagara Falls and got down to business plotting out our post-dinner strategy.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Blogpix\/2010\/07\/i-D9bXbQ9\/0\/X3\/trudy_map5-X3.jpg\"><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: 2px grey solid; display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Blogpix\/2010\/07\/i-D9bXbQ9\/0\/S\/trudy_map5-S.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Trudy studying a map with a Molson's\" height=\"200\" \/><br \/>\n<\/a>\n<\/p>\n<p>\nAnd happily, as you can see, the lack of real iced tea was no impediment whatsoever.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Up before the dawn.
