{"id":6119,"date":"2023-08-08T12:13:09","date_gmt":"2023-08-08T18:13:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/augerhandle.net\/blogs\/jumpingfish\/?p=6119"},"modified":"2023-09-17T20:42:25","modified_gmt":"2023-09-18T02:42:25","slug":"an-interplanetary-fact","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/augerhandle.net\/blogs\/jumpingfish\/2023\/08\/08\/an-interplanetary-fact\/","title":{"rendered":"An Interplanetary Fact"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ingenuity, NASA&rsquo;s helicopter on Mars <a href=\"https:\/\/arstechnica.com\/space\/2023\/08\/after-a-scare-nasas-mars-helicopter-safely-takes-to-the-skies-again\/#p3\">is flying again<\/a> after a recent emergency landing.<\/p>\n<p>In late July during flight #53, the <strong><span style=\"color: #ff2600; font-family: Courier New;\"><span style=\"font-style: normal;\">LAND_NOW<\/span><\/span><\/strong> program in Ingenuity&#8217;s avionics directed the vehicle to land due to navigation discrepancies. It immediately landed. The latest news is that the helicopter seems to be ok with normal missions coming soon. (Ok, &ldquo;more rigorous&#8221; missions.)<\/p>\n<p>Trudy and I can bear witness to the utility of such software based on our recent travels.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/augerhandle.net\/blogs\/jumpingfish\/2023\/07\/03\/mike\/\">As I wrote previously<\/a>, on a fine Sunday morning in June as we were pulling our teardrop northward, our Volvo displayed a <strong><span style=\"color: #ff2600; font-family: Courier New;\"><span style=\"font-style: normal;\">Pull over now<\/span><\/span><\/strong> diagnostic on the dashboard due to tire pressure discrepancies. We immediately pulled over. As a result, we and the car were ok with a several hour delay the only major consequence.
