1. When the world wearies…<\/h3>\n

This morning, Lorene<\/a> of Garden Rant<\/a> fame, wrote about letting her plants speak for themselves<\/a>, in which she posted just photos and names of the plants in her garden. She led with this wonderful quote from Minnie Aumonier<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n

When the world wearies and society ceases to satisfy, there is always the garden.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Seems particularly true today.<\/p>\n

2. Passiflora on our doorstep…<\/h3>\n

Years ago a wild Yellow Passion Vine<\/a> popped up in the front yard. Vines do that from time to time — Mother Nature testing the waters. Many are pokey, but this darling had no thorns, and I somehow knew it to be a native larval host. <\/p>\n

I built a trellis. Dug up the sprout and transplanted it. Now it reliably emerges afresh every spring.<\/p>\n

You might notice that it thins out a bit at the top. Indeed<\/p>\n

\"gnawed<\/a><\/p>\n

That would be due to this culprit<\/a>  <\/p>\n

\"caterpillar\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Last year, they gnawed the vine to the ground, leaving nothing on the trellis, which made us sad. Yet from that comes this <\/p>\n

\"cocoon\"<\/a><\/p>\n

whence comes this<\/p>\n

\"butterflies\"<\/a><\/p>\n

This year the lizards seem to be keeping last year’s caterpillars devastation in check and the passionate vine now has progeny of its own<\/p>\n

\"blossom\"<\/a> \"fruit\"<\/a><\/p>\n
